Azotobacter are aerobic, free-living soil microbes which play an important role in the nitrogen cycle in nature, binding atmospheric nitrogen, which is inaccessible to plants, and releasing it in the form of ammonium ions into the soil.

Azotobacter species are Gram-negative bacteria found in neutral and alkaline soils, in water, and in association with some plants. It induces plants to produce more of beneficial harmones like IAA, GA, Cytokinins and several vitamins. It also induces plants to produce antibiotics which inhibits soil & plant pathogens. Azotobacter can also produce antifungal compounds which suppress a variety of plant pathogens.
Application:
Seed treatment: For 250gm of seeds about 10gm of Azotobacter powder is required. Mix the required amount of seeds, shade dry and after 4 hours use the seeds for sowing.
Seedling root dip: Mix 250gm of Azotobacter powder with 20 ltr of water. In this mixture, keep the seedling roots in immersed condition for 10 minutes and then use the seedlings for transplantation in the field.
Soil Application: Mix 250gm of Azotobacter powder with 5kgs of organic manure/FYM, keep the mixture under shade for one week and apply to the soil.
